As part of the Asia Network’s CSW68 virtual parallel event, ‘FGM/C in Asia: Evidence and Funding’, Orchid Project introduced their latest country profile on the 13th March. This reviewed FGC trends in Malaysia.
Anne-Marie Morin, Research Analyst and Translation Coordinator at Orchid Project presented some of the key findings from the report as part of our soft launch. These findings include the following:
- Orchid Project estimates an FGC prevalence of 93% in the ethnic Malay population of Malaysia
- Orchid Project estimates that more than 7.5 million girls and women in Malaysia have undergone FGC
- This Country Profile calls for a breaking of the silence surrounding FGC in Malaysia.
