When our CEO, Julia Lalla-Maharajh, attended ICRW’s Champions for Change dinner at London’s Banqueting House, she had no idea that she would be seeing an old friend of Orchid Project’s, Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, speaking eloquently and passionately about FGC, and specifically about a visit she made to Ethiopia earlier this year.
In her speech, the Crown Princess highlighted a ‘community dialogue’ session she sat in on whilst visiting Unicef and UNFPA projects (part of the Joint Programme from the Accelerated Abandonment of FGM/C), and said “real sustainable change requires collective agreement – between the individuals, the neighbouring villages and the larger communities and districts. And of course, a strong political will.” We wholeheartedly agree with her.
